We are an a cappella women's chorus located in Ottawa Ontario and under the musical direction of Janet Cadman. We love to sing, and we have fun doing it!
Bytown Beat is a member of Sweet Adelines Intenational (SAI) which is a worldwide organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performances. This independent, non-profit music education association is one of the world‘s largest singing organizations for women. The SAI organization has 24 regions comprised of more that 1200 quartets and 500 choruses.
The Bytown Beat chorus is part of Lake Ontario Region 16 of SAI. Region 16 encompasses part of Ontario and New York State. Every region holds educational events as well as chorus and quartet competitions.
Chorus History
The Bytown Beat chorus, formed in early 2005, became a charter member of Sweet Adelines International (SAI) in October 19, 2007, with 31 members. Over the years a few members have come and gone but a significant number of current members have been with the chorus from the very beginning, and the chorus continues to grow.
The core, founding group had barbershop experience but for the most part we have come because we loved singing in choirs, or the glee club, or the theatre, and because we heard the Bytown Beat Chorus sing at the mall or we attended a show.
